Changes to our Mortgage Services Acquisitions

We are introducing a number of changes to our mortgage services business and wish to advise you that HSBC has made the decision to discontinue correspondent channel acquisitions through HSBC Mortgage Services.

HSBC Mortgage Corporation, the prime mortgage business and Decision One, the wholesale sub-prime business owned by HSBC USA, N.A., are not impacted by this decision.

Your HSBC representative will be in contact shortly and will work closely with you over the next few weeks as we will cease acquisitions through Mortgage Services on May 31, 2007. Your representative will also discuss possible funding opportunities that may exist through our Corporate, Investment Banking and Markets (CIBM) business and will ensure a smooth transition to CIBM if this is appropriate. We are, of course, committed to communicating all pertinent information to our clients in a clear and timely manner and will conduct this process with respect and care for all concerned.
